Bugbroke is an attractive village a few miles south of Northampton. A desirable place to live, but a village under significant land pressure as it is in a designated housing growth area. Yet here on a canal-side location is a close of six houses built fifteen years ago, five of which have never been lived in. The story is the owner allowed the developer to build the houses on his land in exchange for receiving one house himself in payment for the land. Shortly before completion the owner allegedly threw the builder off site. The builder has never been able to recover his costs and the village of Bugbroke has had to put up with the scandal of five deteriorating houses that ought to be homes. The council claim they can do nothing. We disagree and say this is exactly the sort of case that needs council intervention.
