LEPOF
In 1996, David Plank, the then Local Authority Executive at The Empty Homes Agency, decided to set up a forum whereby the Empty Property Officers who were then in post in London, could meet together to discuss common problems, good practice, share experiences, and to join forces in effective lobbying. The forum serves to share information and develop good practice amongst those who are working to tackle the problem of empty properties in London; those involved in front line delivery as well as those developing strategies and initiatives.
Empty Property Forums
- Are aimed at strategic policy makers
- Examine policy and practical initiatives relating to Empty Property work
- Promote the development of professional standards through training
- Showcase innovative provision and best practice
- Promote dialogue and discussion on a wide range of sectoral issues
- Help shape Empty Homes Agency policy developments / campaigns
Forum Structure
LEPOF, which meets twice annually, is split into several regional forums (North East, North West, Central and South West London). Regional representatives meet with the Empty Homes Agency to decide the agenda of the full LEPOF days half of which are spent on workshops with the rest of the time devoted to regional updates etc. The Empty Homes Agency organises these meetings and covers the costs of venue and catering. Similar regional forums now exist across the country. All have an elected Chair and Secretary and sub-groups carry out specific tasks on behalf of the forum. LEPOF is unique however in that the Empty Homes Agency has met any running costs and is prepared to continue to do so.
