Charity Welcomes New Empty Homes Grants Programme

Company News

Independent charity Empty Homes welcomes news that the government’s empty homes programme is to be extended, providing funding for another 5,000 homes to be brought into affordable use.

The news will be announced today by the prime minister amongst a number of announcements on housing and planning http://www.number10.gov.uk/news/plans-to-boost-uk-housebuilding-jobs-and-the-economy/

Chief Executive David Ireland said “This is a fantastic endorsement of the work of councils, housing associations and community groups who are already delivering on the first phase of this programme.” He added “By creating affordable homes for less than £20,000 a unit, this programme is proving that getting empty properties into use is fantastic value for money”

Notes

The government’s empty homes programme has already seen £100m of grants approved for projects that will get more than 5,000 empty properties into affordable use. The existing programme has already approved £70m for councils and housing associations, and a further £30m to community groups and charities.
